Govt. urges traders for registration; Convert Provisional IDs to GSTIN by September 22

Govt. urges traders to take registration for GST now, without waiting for the last date i.e. July 30; States, “If one is carrying-out any business and have an Annual Aggregate turnover in the preceding Financial Year exceeding Rs. 20 lakh (Rs. 10 lakh in Special Category States), you need to register in all the States/Union Territories from where you are making taxable supplies.”; Reiterates the timelines for applying for registration, which are – (i) registered tax-payers who have migrated and are liable to registration under GST should convert their Provisional IDs to GSTIN by submitting necessary documents by September 22, (ii) registered tax-payers who have migrated but are not liable to registration under GST need to apply for cancellation by July 22, (iii) registered tax-payers who have not yet migrated, should apply by July 22; In case of unregistered tax-payers who are liable for registration under GST from July 1, need to apply by July 30, while unregistered tax-payers who will become liable shall apply within 30 days therefrom; While providing the procedure of filing online application from comfort of one’s home, Govt. explains the disadvantages of non-registration, viz. unavailability of benefit of Input Tax Credit both for supplier as well as purchaser : Finance Ministry Press Release
