Karnataka relaxes PT payment and return due date for March 2020

The Government of Karnataka vide an order dated 16th April 2020 has published the Karnataka Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments (Removal of Difficulties) Order, 2020 extends the time limit for submission of statement by employer and filling of return and payment of professional tax by enrolled person during COVID-19 lockdown. Due to the pandemic of COVID-19 and lockdown, it has become difficult to the registered person(employer) and enrolled person (business individual/practitioners etc.) to file statement, return and payment of tax within specified time limit. So, to remove the difficulty, the Karnataka Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments (Removal of Difficulties) Order, 2020 has been published and extends the due dates by 30 more days to help the employer and enrolled person to comply with professional tax laws. The extended due dates mentioned by this Order are as follows-

  1. As per Section 6-A(1) of the  Karnataka Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments Act, 1976, every registered employer has to furnish a statement showing the salary paid by him and the tax deducted during the month within 20 days of the expiry of the month. That means for the month of March 2020, the statement to be submitted within 20th April 2020. Now, as per the new order, the due date for submitting the statement for the month of March 2020 is extended and it can be submitted on or before 20th May 2020.
  2. As per Section 10 (1) of the Karnataka Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments Act, 1976, every enrolled person shall pay the Professional tax and file return before 30th April of the year.  Now, as per the new order, the enrolled person may make payment of tax and file return for the financial year 2019- 2020 till 30th May 2020.
